Are Silver Surfers the new demographic to market to?

They are everywhere. No, literally, they have free bus passes and they’re not afraid to use them!

In an ageing population, the older generation have been targeted for years in print media, with firms such as Saga targeting the elderly and supplying them with must have products.

The older generations are also more affluent, seeing their house prices rise significantly and therefore having more dispensible income.

It’s not surprising then that online marketers are now beginning to target the older generations. Research by UKOM has found that more and more of the older generations are getting online. Not only this, but they are beginning to take over the online world, signing up to Facebook and Twitter in order to tell the world about their accomplishments.

A third of the online population are now Silver Surfers, who are likely to buy their groceries online and other essentials.

Whilst the internet has been typically reserved for the younger generations, more and more silver surfers are beginning to get online. Therefore, retailers are beginning to target this new, emerging market.

iPad Review from VoucherSeeker

Latest Press Release from VoucherSeeker- read below!

If you haven’t yet heard of the Apple iPad, where have you been?! The iPad has caused one of the biggest media frenzies has seen in recent years, as consumers eagerly awaited its launch.

The iPad is a tablet computer which was developed and built by Apple. It was announced in January this year that it would be launched and by the 28th April it had launched in the UK. The original launch date for the iPad had to be set back due to demand in the US- Apple had started taking orders from the US for the iPad from March 2010.

According to Apple, the iPad is ‘a magical and revolutionary product at an unbelievable price,’ so what does the iPad offer?

Technical Specifications

· The iPad’s screen is of a high-resolution with a 9.7-inch LED-backlit IPS display.

· The screen is designed to show your content on the screen in either portrait or landscape orientation, with a wide viewing angle of 178 degrees.

· The screen is Multi Touch

· The iPad is Thin and light

· It has 10 hours battery life

· It is Wireless

· The dock connector port on the bottom of iPad allows you to dock and charge it. It also lets you connect to accessories like the iPad Camera Connection Kit and the iPad Keyboard Dock. Many other accessories are also available

· Built in speakers for a fuller sound

· Comes with a headphone jack and built in microphone.

Accessories

· There are many iPad accessories available including:

· Full sized keyboard

· iPad connection kit in order to import images

· iPod case

· Thousands of applications available

The iPad is meant to revolutionise the way we work. As a mini computer almost, it enables you to do work, have fun and browse the web. Just like the iPhone, the iPad has many different applications. However, all of these applications were built from the ground up in order to take full advantage of the touch and orientation screen.

If you already own the iPhone then there’s no real learning curve with the iPad. The touch screen enables you to scroll through the images and internet as you would with the iPhone. The iPad takes touch screen navigation to a new level, consumers being completely dependent on using their fingers to get where they want to go. This is not complicated if you have already owned an iPhone, but more complicated if not- it is not impossible however.

Receiving and sending emails is easy with the iPad. Use the screen in landscape and get a split screen view, where you can see this shows the emails you’ve read and not read. To focus on an email, turn the screen portrait, where the email will automatically readjust in order for you to read thoroughly. To type up emails, tap the screen in order to get a big keyboard on the screen to enable you to type properly. The keys are practically the same size as a keyboards. The iPad even accelerates your typing speed as it corrects typing, inserts punctuation automatically and suggests words and even tracks what you write. To view attachments simply tap the file and it opens automatically- no need to download any other files in order to see them.

Watch High Definition, TV or even podcasts in excellent quality on the iPad. With ten hours of battery life the iPad is perfectly designed to keep you entertained over a long flight. Simply take it out and put it on the tray in front of you.

Nothing about the iPad feels at all cheap, it is a well put together device. However, it is heavier than expected which could become uncomfortable if people are simply holding it in their hands for long periods of use. The colour display is excellent with brilliant contrasts in colours.

As previously mentioned the iPad is very easy to use if you have already used an iPhone or iPod touch. However, it will be a learning curve for people who have not previously owned one. Having said that, the touch surfaces are the best available.

A few things need to be mentioned regarding what the iPad does not have. These include a camera, USB ports or keyboard. If you want a keyboard it has to be bought separately. As the iPad keyboard can be a bit uncomfortable when using for long periods of time, it could be worth getting one. The iPad is also unable to multitask in the background which makes business use difficult, coupled with the keyboard issue. The iPad also does not have a built in GPS, which some people will have become accustomed to being a standard.

Altogether, the iPad is a revolutionary product but there are still some kinks that need ironing out. It is worth mentioning that the iPad 3G is also available which hopes to iron out these kinks, but not all. Technology in this area will only develop further, so we eagerly await what the next development will be.

iPad discounts

It is worth mentioning that Students, teachers, lecturers or education staff are able to get a discount on Apple iPad products, if they fulfil the criteria.

The Winners Of the World Cup…Supermarkets!

This is the latest press release offering from VoucherSeeker- check it out!

The World Cup is well underway and as the country sits gripped in the drama which is currently unfolding and part with their hard earned cash using voucher code sites such as VoucherSeeker (http://www.voucherseeker.co.uk/vouchercodes), the real winners of the World Cup are in fact…. Supermarkets.

The UK economy is expected to receive a £1.3 billion boost as shoppers buy products from World Cup Gnomes to show their support to HDTVs to watch the matches. Consumers hoping to save money are flocking to sites such as VoucherSeeker for discount vouchers and discount codes for money off World Cup items. However, not all retailers will be World Cup Winners.

Research by Verdict suggests that whilst some retailers will feel the boost, others will actually suffer due to lack of interest in products and time to shop. As people choose to stay at home to watch matches, town centres will become more empty. Department stores in particular will suffer as lack of traffic on the high street will result in lack of people in their stores. Homewares, furniture and DIY stores are also expected to feel the pinch.

Verdict research has found that the 1.3 billion extra to be spent over the World Cup will actually be spent on groceries between June and July 2010. Alcohol sales alone are set to increase by 7.2%.

“The VoucherSeeker World Cup Offers page sees many vouchers and promotional codes from retailers such as Tesco, who not only offer groceries but electricals too,” states Duke Tanson, VoucherSeeker Director.

In fact, supermarkets Verdict feels give the ‘competitive advantage’ include Tesco and Sainsburys, as both offer rapidly expanding services, convenience for consumers and appealing non food offers.

Shopping online for World Cup voucher codes and offers will also be an advantage to consumers, as they simply need to check online for discounts.

“The beauty of shopping online at stores like VoucherSeeker is that you can do it anywhere,” states Duke. “Whether you want a Vodafone promotional code (http://www.voucherseeker.co.uk/voucher-codes/64728/vodafonepromotionalcodes) or Currys discount code(http://www.voucherseeker.co.uk/voucher-codes/76737/currys-discount-codes.html), sites like VoucherSeeker attract users, even if it’s just to use our World Cup Offers page!”

It is not just the big four retailers who will be benefitting from the World Cup. Convenience stores and grocery retailers are set to see the benefits of World Cup spending. Sportwear retailers are also set to be winners in the World Cup tournament as people race to show their support for their teams. Consumers wanting to save money will be using discount vouchers and discount codes from voucher code sites.

However, the research also found that electrical retailers are to be disappointed. During the 2006 World Cup consumer interest in new technologies peaked. However, Verdict suggests that consumer interest in technology for the 2010 World Cup is no longer there and therefore difficult to replicate for retailers.

How the England team performs in the World Cup is also set to have an impact on spending. The better the team does and the further they get into the competition, the more spending will increase.

The real winners of the World Cup are set to be supermarkets, as consumers will mainly be spending their money on groceries and alcohol. Consumers are expected to spend an extra 1.3 billion over the world cup period as people choose to stay at home in order to watch the matches. Consumers will be shunning the high street in order to watch matches and shop for products online using voucher codes from sites such as VoucherSeeker (http://www.voucherseeker.co.uk/vouchercodes). Retailers who will be missing out include DIY, homewares and department stores, as town centres become less busy.
