World Cup as big as Christmas for retailers

Latest press release from VoucherSeeker!

One of the most highly anticipated sporting events of the year is about to begin, and as the World Cup draws ever closer, retailers are claiming it’s the best sales opportunity since the Christmas period. The UK has gone mad for all things football, whilst voucher code sites such as VoucherSeeker (http://www.voucherseeker.co.uk/vouchercodes) offer consumers discounts on those must have products.

From TVs and football shirts to goal posts and footballs, the nation longs to celebrate the World Cup and retailers are eager to supply plenty of products and discount vouchers in order to allow consumers to do so for less.

The recent few years have been hard for retailers. The recession, low consumer confidence and snow storms all affected consumer spending habits- many of which are set to now be permanent shopping habits. Despite the country coming out of recession, research by Datamonitors found that 48% of people still felt financially worse off than six months ago. Not only this but 42% of consumers are much more aware of how much waste they are producing and are therefore cutting down the number of times they go to the shops in order to produce less.

“As summer approaches, so does a slower time for retailers, which is why the World Cup is important,” states Duke Tanson, VoucherSeeker Director. “It gives retailers a chance to get people into their stores and get consumers interested in products again. VoucherSeeker has not only seen Vodafone promotional codes (http://www.voucherseeker.co.uk/voucher-codes/64728/vodafonepromotionalcodes) and Currys discount codes (http://www.voucherseeker.co.uk/voucher-codes/76737/currys-discount-codes.html) on it’s site but also discount codes for TVs as well as football shirts and equipment, everyone’s going mad for football products!”

Research by Mintel found that during the World Cup 63% of people will be increasing the amount they spend on leisure, whilst 31% will be buying alcohol for matches. Another 29% will be buying food and snacks and 13% will buy a newspaper in order to keep up with World Cup events. 61% of consumers will be watching the World Cup at home, but the impact of the World Cup on spending will be over and above their normal spending. Consumers wishing to keep an eye on their spending will be able to turn to voucher sites such as VoucherSeeker in order to get discounts. Not only is the spending frenzy good for retailers and promotional code sites such as VoucherSeeker, but it will also help to boost the economy after the difficult spending period.

For many retailers, the World Cup is as big a retail opportunity as Christmas, due to the length of the tournament, as well as the build up and spending opportunity.

Christmas has been difficult for retailers for the past few years, as recession woes and job cuts saw people spending less and turning to voucher code sites such as VoucherSeeker in order to save money. Not only this, but consumers became more active in researching products online in order to ensure they get the best deal possible, often turning to online stores instead of the high street to do their Christmas and essential shopping.

The World Cup is as big event for retailers as the Christmas period. The month long tournament will see people increase their leisure spending, as well as buying extra groceries in order to enjoy the event. After a difficult few years for retailers, due to weather conditions, recession and job losses, the World Cup will be a welcome spending opportunity for both retailers and the economy- giving the UK a welcome spending boost. Consumers wishing to spend less will do so with increasing numbers of voucher codes from sites such as VoucherSeeker (http://www.voucherseeker.co.uk/vouchercodes) in order to save money. As the tournament continues, consumer spending will rise as all hope to enjoy the event.

Press Release: World Cup Fever Hits VoucherSeeker!

The World Cup is less than a month away but already World cup excitement has reached fever pitch across the nation and at voucher code site VoucherSeeker (http://www.voucherseeker.co.uk/vouchercodes)!

This year’s world cup will be the 19th tournament, which is to be held in South Africa. During the month long event, 32 teams will battle it out for a place in the final, and ultimately be crowned World Cup Winners.

Many retail outlets are eager to offer World Cup merchandise, but the cost of this can quickly add up. However, consumers need not worry about their pockets over the World Cup season, as shopping online using voucher codes and discount vouchers could get consumers money off World Cup products.

Traditionally seen as a way to save money on products such as electricals and fashion, discount codes and promotional codes from VoucherSeeker can also help to get discounts once World Cup excitement hits fever pitch. Not only offering consumers Vodafone promotional codes (http://www.voucherseeker.co.uk/voucher-codes/64728/vodafonepromotionalcodes)and Currys discount codes (http://www.voucherseeker.co.uk/voucher-codes/76737/currys-discount-codes.html)for every day products, VoucherSeeker also offers consumers a cheaper way to enjoy the World Cup.

“VoucherSeeker has plenty of vouchers for money off,” states Duke Tanson, VoucherSeeker Director. “Whether consumers want to travel to the World Cup event or just enjoy the matches at home on new electricals, VoucherSeeker has voucher codes and discount vouchers which mean you can do it for less!”

Retailers are relying on the World Cup to help create more sales. Sales on the high street during April fell by 2.3%, according to research by BRC-KPMG Retail Sales Monitor. The same period in 2009, sales were up by 4.6%. Reasons for the poor sales include the timing of the Easter holidays, as well as continued bad weather.

However, UK consumers are set to provide the economy with a welcome World Cup boost, research by Mintel has found. During the World Cup, 63% of people will be spending more on leisure activities, 71% of people are expected to be watching the World Cup, whilst only 28% of people claim not to be interested in it whatsoever.

No only this, but 23% of people will be placing bets and 81% of people visiting pubs to watch the World Cup are expected to spend more money whilst there. 29% of people will be buying more snacks whilst the World Cup tournament is taking place. This means that both the high street and online retailers will see a much needed boost to sales.

Many valued brands are hoping to cash in from the World Cup. From Adidas launching World Cup trainers, to Npower re-enacing the Maradona incident, brands recognise the significance of the World Cup and that people will be spending money during this period.

“The World Cup is not only a big event which brings the nation together, it’s also a massive marketing opportunity for brands,” states Duke.

The South African World Cup is set to bring the whole nation together as they watch the tournament take place. Not only is it a massive sporting event, it is also a big spending event for the high street, which has experienced poor sales due to the recession and bad weather. As the World Cup fever takes hold, consumers no longer need to worry about their pockets due to discount codes and vouchers from online voucher code site VoucherSeeker. Whether consumers will be flying out to South Africa, or simply enjoying the games at home, VoucherSeeker (http://www.voucherseeker.co.uk/vouchercodes) offers consumers promotional codes and voucher codes in order to save them money.

Retail News- Politicians Should Buy Empty Stores

If you’ve been hiding in a box for the last month, it may come as a surprise to you that there is to be a General Election in order to establish who will run the government.

Whilst many babies are being kissed, many schools and care homes visited and wives out in force to support their husbands, Retail Consultant Mark McKeever is asking politicians to fill empty shops.

In fact, McKeever means this quite literally. He believes that politicians should literally open shops in the empty retail spaces in order to speak to people directly on their policies. By opening a shop, political parties can meet hundreds of potential voters and win them over.

McKeever goes onto argue that whilst politicians can use social media to meet and convince voters to vote for them, there’s nothing like a face to face meeting.

I personally believe this is a good idea. Instead of politicians turning up on your front door, why not have a store where people can go in a question people on their policies? High streets get a boost as do politicians.

Whether politicians will do this or not is another question. With more live debates looming and Facebook prompting people to vote, it seems that traditional face to face conversations with voters could be an old way to get votes.
