Design Services at Laura Ashley

Laura Ashley's design service is designed to help you realise your dreams and aspirations for your home. An interior designer will come to your home and hear your specification, your needs and wants for the rooms.

The designer will then create a mood board and an estimate for the work. Here shoppers can talk through their project and understand what the interior designer has in mind.

Once the customer is completely happy with the design and style of the room or rooms, then all they have to do is order the products. Simple!

Laura Ashley was started in 1953 by Bernard and Laura Ashley, who began printing fabric in their kitchen.

From here, Laura really came into her own, being inspired to make patchwork quilts. Unhappy with the materials available, Laura and Bernard invested in wood for a screen, dyes and linen and went to the library to learn printing processes.

The Ashley couple produced scarves, tea towels and placemats. The company at the time was named Ashley Mountney Ltd, but was renamed Laura Ashley to reflect the higher class items they were creating. Still, the company grew to create gloves, aprons and gardening smocks. Many of these products are available today.

By 1960 Laura Ashley had a turnover of £8,000. Laura was inspired by the Victorians and created elegant fashion pieces which made the company so popular.

Today, Laura Ashley has branched out into launching organic cotton products, as well as homewares. Laura Ashley's keen eye for detail and design is still fundamental to the company, which offers consumers great furniture and clothing.
