Ann Summers History
Ann Summers was founded by Kim Caborn Waterfied in 1970
David Gold acquired the stores in 1972 with Ralph Gold, his brother.
In 1979 David's daughter Jacqueline did work experience at the store. By chance she went to a Tupperware party and realised the potential for Ann Summers parties with no men allowed policies.
The parties took off and entered into British popular culture. Also could circumvent the law which limited the presentation space for sex toys in shops.
Jacqueline was made Chief executive in 1987 and transformed the chain into what it is today.
In 1999 the stores relaunched their website
2000 acquired the Knickerbox brand.
