Bill Gates no longer richest man
It is the first time in 15 years that an American is not at the top of the list, as Gates slips to second place, and Warren Buffet hits third.
The recession saw 332 names leaving the list last year, however this year 793 have been added.
Slim is a telecoms tycoon. A spokesperson for Slim refused to confirm Slim's wealth but did say: "We're pleased that he has been considered the best businessman of the world.It means there is trust among the investors."
The news is welcomed among Europe as it shows signs that the global economy is recovering, the average net worth of the world's billionaire's is up $500 from last year.
55 countries were represented in the Forbes list, including people from Pakistan, Finland, Russia, America and the UK.
